Steampunk Jewelry goes Mainstream

Steampunk Jewelry goes Mainstream

Have you noticed that Steampunk style jewelry has hit mainstream?

I fell in love with the the inner workings of vintage pocket watches and antique ladies wrist watches years ago.  Such intricate detail was given by the watch maker as he created a working time keeping piece.  There were a variety of gemstones used and this not only added value but had a practical purpose as well.   The pocket watch cases were commonly designed and constructed by a completely different company all together.  And many many of these cases could only contain a minute amount of pure gold as one time in our history, the dollar was actually based on gold.  As a matter of fact, during the first United States depression, only a small amount of gold was permitted to be owned.  A lady could keep her gold wedding ring but excesses were not aloud.

The gears of these watches are fascinating.  A massive amount of different sizes have been created through the years and used for different size watches.  I am drawn to these.  I use at least one vintage pocket or wrist watch gear in nearly all of my work.  The watch faces can be very beautiful.  One of my favorite pieces I created uses the face of a gorgeous Elgin pocket watch.

The genre Steampunk has been around for over 20 years, popular mostly in the UK.  It is a melding of the era of the steam engine both in fashion and functionality, pulling in the Victorian era attire and the futuristic mechanical development using the power of steam only to power everyday items from the  computer to weaponry.  It is worth the Google inquiry.

So now mainstream has caught on to the beauty and quasi functionality of Steampunk jewelry.   Various craft companies are creating faux gears,  keys, and  vintage watch parts and I'll admit, using some of these maintains my jewelry's affordability.  You can see this jewelry trend everywhere.  No longer is it necessary to dress in the Steampunk fashion to wear Steampunk style jewelry! A strong trend of which I am happy to be a  part.

My Steampunk jewelry are my designs and crafted by me.  No mass production, just an artist doing what she love.  It is available online at my website: www.PatriciaPalotas.com and at Etsy www.Etsy.com/shop/PatriciasCollection and www.Bonanza.com/booth/Melane_Ave.com    I encourage you to take a look and purchase a piece or two.  You will be very pleased with the look, the quality and all the compliments you will receive.
